Chelsea are close to signing highly-rated Swedish teenager Edwin Andersson according to reports from his home country. Swedish tabloid Expressen reports that Chelsea is the most likely destination for the 15-year-old forward.
His father revealed that amid interests from other clubs, his son had chosen Chelsea as he seeks to improve in his game with the club. Chelsea was issued a transfer ban by FIFA after the club was found to have fallen foul with transfer regulations. Andersson is currently 15 years and cannot sign a professional contract until he turns 16 in November.
It is understood that IFK Gothenburg are still trying to convince the youngster to sign a deal with the club with the view of getting a transfer fee in the summer. It remains to be seen whether a move to Chelsea can materialize in light of the current situation at the club.
Club owner Roman Abramovich was last seen in the club last year as it was reported that he was refused a visa to the United Kingdom due to his close relationship with Russian president Vladimir Putin.
The Russian Oligarch was granted an Israeli passport meaning that he can visit the UK for up to six months. However, his distance from the club has been translated by some media outlets as a sign that he wants out from the club.
Abramovich bought the club in 2003 and has overseen the most successful era in the club history winning 11 trophies.
